Safety First!

A Note to Parents and Teachers:

In the Fall of 2004, a handful of incidents occurred at a small number of County Fairs and petting zoos throughout the country, in which children were exposed to the e-coli bacteria that has always lived in the digestive tracts of most mammals. Though officials say that the chance of such incidents occurring is extremely small, and in fact we have never had a single incident occur at our own Farm, we feel that when you are talking about children, even a one in a million chance is too much! Therefore we have decided to be proactive in making sure this never happens at Hill Ridge Farms.

I didn't do it!To this end, we have removed our farm animals from the old petting barn and placed them instead inside the adjacent corral. The corral has been re-fitted for the comfort of the animals and is now fenced with a double layer of wire fencing. The inner and outer fences are five feet apart, to keep little fingers out and little noses in. We think you'll agree that this is safer for the children as well as the animals!

Our new Farm Animal Corral offers children and adults a safe, fun opportunity to learn about real barnyard animals. Children are able to feed the animals through feeding chutes (which are fun in themselves!) and watch the animals interact. Little fingers are invited to explore colorful, educational quiz boards highlighting surprise facts about the animals and farm life.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about how we are proactively addressing child and animal safety, please feel free to call us! (919) 556-1771
